Lethbridge, Alta. – A very successful second year of the Lethbridge & District Exhibition Lotteries program has resulted in a $13,065.22 donation to YWCA Lethbridge & District. The 50/50 lottery launched at Ag Expo in February and ran through to the end of Whoop-Up Days in August. Jill Grindle of Calgary purchased the winning ticket during Whoop-Up Days and won the $42,332.50 jackpot.

In its second year, the Lethbridge & District Exhibition 50/50 Lottery celebrates Lethbridge & District Exhibition’s long history of community involvement. With each ticket purchased, not only did community members have the opportunity to win big, they were also giving back, with proceeds benefiting both YWCA Lethbridge & District, and Lethbridge & District Exhibition to support community initiatives.

“Getting YWCA Lethbridge & District involved as our charitable partner really gave this year’s lotteries campaign a boost,” says Mike Warkentin, Lethbridge & District Exhibition CEO. “Their volunteers worked tirelessly throughout Whoop-Up Days to increase the pot and its impact on the community. We’re thankful to everyone who bought a ticket for supporting such a great cause and we’re thrilled to present the YWCA with these proceeds to support the great work they do.”

Lethbridge & District Exhibition launched Lethbridge & District Exhibition Lotteries in 2022 in celebration of the organization’s 125th anniversary. Aligning with YWCA at its charitable partner for the second year of the program supports LDE’s organizational priority of corporate social responsibility by recognizing and aiding the work YWCA Lethbridge & District does to benefit women and girls in Lethbridge.

YWCA Lethbridge & District has been a staple in Southern Alberta for more than 60 years, continuing to grow and respond to the needs of the community. Housing, homelessness, poverty, domestic and sexual violence, volunteerism, youth empowerment, leadership and a place to belong are all addressed at YWCA.

“YWCA Lethbridge & District was so pleased to be able to partner with Lethbridge & District Exhibition to be the charitable recipient from this year’s 50/50 Lottery,” says Jill Young, YWCA Lethbridge & District CEO. “It was amazing to see the community support for our organization, from volunteering or purchasing tickets; this was a great initiative to bring awareness to the services we offer. All proceeds from this donation will go directly to our programs and client services.”

Charitable proceeds for the 2023 campaign more than doubled those of the program’s inaugural year, building momentum as the program heads into its third year. Details about the 2024 Lethbridge & District Exhibition Lotteries program will be announced in the coming months.
